A Meridian man died early Sunday on the way to University Medical Center in Jackson after being injured in a shooting Saturday night at a 29th Avenue home.
Lauderdale County Medical Examiner Marl Cobler said that Michael Drake, 27, address unavailable, was pronounced dead at 12:30 a.m. at Lackey Memorial Hospital in Forest.
Cobler said that Drake died from multiple gunshot wounds to the neck and chest. Drake originally had been taken to Riley Hospital and was being transported to UMC.
Drake's death followed a shooting Saturday night. Meridian police were called to a residence at 1209 29th Ave. at about 8:45 p.m. to investigate a possible shooting.
Several police cars were seen canvassing the area between 12th and 13th streets as late as 9:30 p.m. Saturday.
Meridian Police Chief Benny DuBose said that a man suspected of being involved in the shooting was in custody Sunday. DuBose said the man has not been charged.
DuBose said he had no other information about the case or the investigation.
