Dozier posts season's first 700

The first full week of the 2002-2003 season is now behind us and scores are off and running.
Fred Dozier had the honor of shooting the season's first 700 Series while bowling in the Hucklebuck league on Monday night. Fred's 720 was the top score of the evening while Andrew Clayton chipped in with an even 700 the same night. Johnnie Blackmon, who last year led all bowlers with 37 700s reeled off a 727 in the Wednesday Night Mixed league and Shawn Kasper added a 711. Johnnie's wife Candy got her season started with a bang by recording her first career 600 Series with a 619 the same night. Janie Tisdale recorded the high game for the ladies with a 245; Denise Rutledge fired a 234 while Pat James and Annette Palmer each carded games of 233 and Sharon McDonald reeled off a nice 221.
Several leagues are still in need of players and teams to fill vacancies. Two women are needed to complete a team in the Bowlerettes league. The Tuesday Night Mixed league is also looking for a couple of bowlers, either male or female. The Queen City league is seeking five men to fill a last minute vacancy in that league and the Dixie Belles are seeking three women. The MBA is once again running their nightly Strikepot. This year the pot features three average divisions in order to allow lower average bowlers a better opportunity to cash. The higher you average, the more strikes you will need to win the pot. As of Thursday, the pot was already up to $114. An MBA representative will be present each night to run the pot. Entry is just $1 each night.
The Saturday Morning Juniors held their sign-up meeting over the weekend and will begin bowling Sept. 7 at 10 a.m. If your child was unable to attend the meeting, you may still enter him/her in the program by having them at Dixie Bowl at 9:30.
The Wednesday Fun Time Juniors will be having their start-up meeting tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. As usual, this league will be a doubles league, allowing the children to be through bowling shortly after 5 p.m. each week. Betty Dorough will be handling the program for Wednesday while Leon Fike and Candy Blackmon will oversee the Saturday morning program.
