It took the Northeast Lauderdale softball team a little under an hour to dispose of visiting Laurel on Tuesday night at Northeast Park.
The Lady Trojans took advantage of bad Laurel defense to score 16 runs in the bottom of the second on their way to a 19-0 victory.
After a scoreless first inning, Northeast exploded to put the game away in the second inning. Everyone in the starting lineup scored a run in the huge inning.
Jana Olczack started the inning with a single. Blair Rawson followed with a hard-hit grounder that got by the second baseman. Jennifer Bristow brought both runners in with a flyball to right that was misplayed. Capri Norris followed with a groundout to short. On the play, courtesy runner Ivy Rawson moved to third and scored on a wild throw to make the score 3-0.
Kara Hull hit a ball that fell in over the outfielder's head and Danielle McCoy walked. Lauren Webb had a flyball drop over an outfielder's head to knock in two runs and make the score 5-0. Grace Ann Watkins followed with a single to knock in Webb. Amber Gray ripped a hit through the hole and came all the way around to score when the ball got by the outfielders. With the score 8-0 and the bases empty, Olczack singled again and scored when Rawson hit a triple into right and past the outfielder.
Bristow reached base when a popup was missed and Norris doubled. Hull knocked in a run when her grounder went through a fielder's legs and into the outfield. Webb kept the inning going with a double to knock in two runs. Watkins singled in another run and later scored on an error after a hit by Raleigh Odom.
Laurel finally got the third out of the inning after 16 runs had come across.
With the game out of reach, Northeast added three runs in the bottom of the third. Olczack reached on an error. Rawson doubled and Bristow knocked in two runs with a tough-hop single. The final Lady Trojan run of the game scored on a fielder's choice by Jamie Gardner.
The Northeast defense held Laurel to just one hit on the night and the Lady Trojans took the win 19-0 by the run-rule.
With the win, the Lady Trojans improve to 2-1 on the young season.
