    KATHRYN GILES SCOTT
    YORK, Ala. Graveside services for Kathryn Giles Scott were to be held today at 10 a.m. at Clay Memorial Cemetery in Cuba. Bumpers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
    Mrs. Scott, 94, of Cuba, died Monday, July 22, 2002. She was born April 26, 1908, of early pioneer stock in Sumter County, Ala., and Lauderdale County, Miss. Her parents were Joel Hampton Giles of Cuba and Sarah Inez Temple of Bailey, Center Hill, Electric Mills, Scooba and the Shuck Town area.
    Her paternal great-grandfather, Nathaniel Greene Giles of Boligee, Ala., planter from Fayetteville, N.C. (1835), was Cuba's first postmaster in 1847.
    Her grandfather, John Hiram Giles, M.D., was one of Cuba's early physicians during and after the War Between the States.
    She went to school in Cuba and graduated from Livingston State Teacher's College (now UWA). In 1932 she married Lester Lee Scott of pioneer stock around the Scott Mountain and Rock Springs communities west of Riderwood, in Choctaw County, Ala., and the couple had two sons.
    She completed her bachelor's degree in history at Howard College (now Samford University) in Birmingham. First widowed in 1947, she continued to teach public school music at Gibson School in Birmingham for 21 years.
    In 1968, she married her second cousin, Alfred Corn of Meridian, and returned to Meridian. Corn died suddenly in 1970.
    In 1972 she married Paul K. Richie of Meridian and lived alternately in Meridian and Sun City, Ariz. Richie died in November 2000 at King's Daughters and Sons Nursing Home.
    Mrs. Scott pursued three great passions, exceptional performance on the piano from age 7, the love of her soul mate, Lester Lee Scott, the father of her children, and her two sons. She lived in hope of rejoining the love-of-her-life.
    Survivors include her sister, Frances Temple Giles McElroy of Cuba; her sons, David Giles Scott of Prescott, Ariz., and Joseph Lester Scott of Tucson, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Wendy Scott Blakeslee of Aspen, Colo., Erin Leigh Scott of Tucson, David Scott Jr. of Phoenix, Brett Lester Scott of Tempe, Ariz., Lisa Sharon Gustas of Houston and Branwyn Kathlyn Walker of Tucson; six great-grandchildren, Brandon James Mazzola, Nicole Leigh Scott Mazzola, Andrew Campbell Scott, Samuel Hayden Blakeslee, Kathlyn Lee Walker and Brooke Ann Scott; a nephew, Harold Temple McElroy of Montecello; and three grand-nephews, several great-nephews and great-nieces; and many cousins in the Cuba and Meridian areas.
    BERNICE STEWART
    Services for Bernice Stewart will be held today at 11 a.m. at Barham Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Jones officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
    Mrs. Stewart, 83, of Meridian, died Sunday, July 21, 2002, at Heartfelt Hospice. She was a member of Highland Baptist Church and the Ruth Sunday School Class. She was a former member of Happy Highlanders Singing Group.
    Survivors include her sons, Jerry Stewart and his wife, Eileen, of Meridian and Dr. William Stewart and his wife, Sally, of Columbia, S.C.; a daughter, Betty Stewart Harper and her husband, Robert, of Shreveport, La.; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Pat Leggett and his wife, Ethel, of Seminary, and William B. Leggett Jr. and his wife, Shirley, of Seminary; two sisters, Betty Speed of Seminary and Margaret Tucker of Knoxville, Tenn.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, A.R. Stewart.
    Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
    Pallbearers will be Frank Boone, David Buntyn, Phil Davis, Ray Jenkins, Jerry McCay and Charles Vick.
    JUNE COPELAND
    Secretary for Philadelphia Utilities
    PHILADELPHIA Services for June Copeland will be held today at 11 a.m. at McClain-Hays Funeral Service Chapel with the Revs. Mack Alford and Dennis Duvall officiating. Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery in Philadelphia.
    Mrs. Copeland, 53, of Philadelphia, died Sunday, July 21, 2002, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. She was a secretary for Philadelphia Utilities for the past 33 years.
    Survivors include her husband, Truitt "Nubbin" Copeland, a son, Dewayne Copeland, a granddaughter and a sister, Joy Seale, all of Philadelphia.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, Mattie Ruth and Lacie Murphy.
    MARGUERITE DENNIS
    Retired social worker
    PHILADELPHIA Services for Marguerite Dennis will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at McClain-Hays Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Jimmie Gunn officiating. Burial will be in Rosamond Cemetery in Winston County.
    Mrs. Dennis, 69, of Hattiesburg, died Saturday, July 20, 2002, at Wesley Medical Center in Hattiesburg.
    Survivors include her daughters, Laurie Ellen Risher of Hattiesburg, Phyllis Chisolm of Columbus, Ga., and Rosemarie Nickles of San Antonio; sons, Timothy Hisaw of Noxapater and Steve Brannon of Niceville, Fla.; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and a brother, James Palmer of Van Cleave.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, William Carroll and Wilsie Ima Palmer.
    Visitation will be today 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
