Diamond Girls headed to Lexington

The Diamond Girls, a slow-pitch softball team based out of Newton County, will be headed to Lexington, S.C. this weekend to take part in the USSSA 8-Under Coach Pitch Worlds.
Coach Randy Bishop's squad will be one of 28 teams taking part in the double-elimination tournament, which will open on Thursday with two-pool play games.
His squad had to fight for a third-place finish in last weekend's state tournament in Hattiesburg to earn a spot in the Worlds.
Bishop said that while the team is based out of Newton County that players from all over the East Mississippi area are on the team.
