CLEVELAND Delta State University student Darren Wyatt Simmons of Meridian has earned dean's list honors for compiling a 3.50 to 3.79 grade point average during the 2002 spring semester while attempting 12 or more academic hours.
DECATUR "Nappy Roots" placed second in the intramural co-ed softball competition at East Central Community College.
Team members were Derrell Laymom of Quitman; Latoria Payton and Tyeasha Denson, both of Ludlow; Natasha Foster of Philadelphia; Anthony Stephens of Carthage; Lekendrick Fortune, Larry Johnson and Pooh Woods, all of Walnut Grove; Kasey Kennedy and Marcus Jones, both of Forest; Eric Bland of Meridian; Gary Graham of Noxapater; and Reggie Cistrunk of Louisville.
Mike Anderson serves as director of the college's intramural program.
The William Carey College Crusader Yearbook and Cobbler Newspaper organizations honored students at the premier Student Publication Awards Banquet recently on the Hattiesburg campus.
The banquet recognized accomplishments of students who work for the campus yearbook and newspaper. Dr. Kathie Chute, Crusader yearbook advisor, and Dr. Michael Chute, Cobbler newspaper advisor, presented the awards.
Students from the area who received awards were:
Karen Napp, a religion major from Meridian, who received the Best Photography Series award and an honorable mention for Best Section Editor for her work on the yearbook.
Joy Stodghill, a communication major from Waynesboro, who received the Best News and Best Feature Photograph awards. She was also named Best Photographer.
MONTEVALLO, Ala. Joseph M. Mure of Meridian earned highest honors during the annual Honors Day Convocation at the University of Montevallo.
Highest honors are accorded to full-time undergraduate students who have completed at least 12 semester hours at the University of Montevallo and whose cumulative University of Montevallo grade point average is a 3.80 or better.
DECATUR Eleven student-athletes at East Central Community College in Decatur have been selected National Junior College Athletic Association Academic All-Americans for the 2001-2002 college term.
Recipients of the honor must have completed three semesters of course work and participated in at least one sport recognized by the NJCAA.
Students who earn a 3.8 grade point average or above qualify as Distinguished Academic All-Americans and those with at least a 3.6 average are named Academic All-Americans.
Honorees and their respective sports area include: Tori Tijerina, tennis, of Newton; Emily Casey, softball, and Sommer Averett, softball, both of Union; Brandi Bounds, tennis, of DeKalb; Josh Chaney, football/baseball, of Little Rock; Caleb May, soccer, and Wesley Rounsaville, soccer, both of Philadelphia; Braden Land, soccer, of Corinth; and Jeremy Stevens, golf, Ty Anderson, tennis, and Corey Amis, baseball, all of Decatur.
DECATUR A group of industrial workers recently completed a 30-hour Electrical-Level One course provided in the Productivity Enhancement Lab at the Philadelphia/Neshoba County Vocational-Technical Center, a division of East Central Community College.
Those completing the course were Robert Spears of Meridian; Allan Barnett and Clark Gregory, both of Noxapater; Ashley Johnson and Joshua Busby, both of Leesville, La.; Patrick Hantzis, Nathan Johnson, David Johnson Jr., Justin Holmes and Maddi Price, all of Philadelphia; Jerry Kelly, Thomas Fulgham and Shane Clark, all of Louisville; Jeremy Stokes of Collinsville; and Jerome Newsom of Carthage.
