Services for Carrie Mae French Shealy will be held Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at Erin Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Newton County with the Rev. Charles Morrow officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Barham Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Shealy, 99, of Meridian, died Sunday, May 5, 2002, at Beverly HealthCare-Broadmoor. She was a member of Erin Cumberland Presbyterian Church and a honorary member of Jones Memorial Presbyterian Church in Meridian. She was well known for her famous fried apple pies, her quilting skills, her loving sweet smile and being a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was a Christian who truly loved her Lord and worshiped faithfully at Erin Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She joined the church in September 1918. The last 14 years of her life she lived with her devoted daughters in Meridian and under the love and faithful care of the Beverly HealthCare facility.
Survivors include two daughters, Angeline Vance, Mary Elois Taylor Godeaux and her husband, Joe, all of Meridian; half-sisters, Juanita French Brewer of Hattiesburg and Claudine French Taylor of Virginia; eight grandchildren, Betty Lynn Vance Harpe and her husband, E.C., of Florence, Dianne Vance Waldron and her husband, Charles, of St. Louis, Mo., Nancy Shealy Harveston and her husband, Bruce, of Natchez, Ruben Shealy and his wife, Kelly, of Covington, La., Patsy Shealy Bradley of Hattiesburg, Jimmy Taylor and his wife, Jenny Lynn, Rita Taylor Flint and her husband, Alan, and Pat Taylor and his wife, Danita, all of Meridian; 22 great-grandchildren, Spencer Harpe of Ohio, Tracy Harpe of Florence, Phillip Vance, Adam and Carrie Waldron of St. Louis, Lew Harveston of Hattiesburg, Lance and Mark Harveston of Natchez, Kyle, Mason and Ethan Shealy of Covington, Jake and Jesse Bradley of Hattiesburg, Olivia Taylor of Meridian, Jeremy Flint and his wife, Jana, of Homewood, Ala., Matthew and Alana Flint of Meridian, Patrick, Melissa, Austin and Brian Taylor of Meridian; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester Festus "Vester" Shealy; a son and daughter-in-law, Adolph and Carrie Gordon Shealy of Natchez; two sons-in-law, Alfred "Bill" Taylor and Royce Vance, both of Meridian; and a grandson-in-law, Jeff Bradley of Hattiesburg.
The family requests memorials be made to Erin Cumberland Presbyterian Church or a favorite charity.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Taylor, Pat Taylor, Ruben Shealy, Alan Flint, E.C. Harpe, Bruce Harveston and Charles Waldron. Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandsons.
Visitation will be today 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home and Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church.
EMMA JEAN PHILYAW THORNTON

Services for Emma Jean Philyaw Thornton will be held Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at Bethel Southern United Methodist Church with the Revs. Jesse Long and Lane Busbee officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Barham Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Thornton, 60, of Bailey, died Saturday, May 4, 2002, at Rush Foundation Hospital. She was employed with Roadway Express for 30 years and won several awards while working there.
Survivors include her husband, Guy O. Thornton of Bailey; three children, Cindy Morgan and her husband, Tony, of Meridian, Rhonda Heartsill and her husband, Charles, of Sawyerville, Ala., and Scott Sanderford and his wife, Juanita, of Northport, Ala.; stepchildren, Jimmy Thornton and his wife, Angie, Lisa Phillips and her husband, Tim, and Lois McDonald and her husband, JR, two sisters, Patricia Knight, Phylis Wright and her husband, Russell, all of Bailey; 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. Otis and Dorothy Philyaw; and a sister, Barbara Thornton.
Pallbearers will be Russell Wright, Travis Knight Jr., James Thornton, Doyle Thornton, Guy McRae and Jeremy Harper.
Visitation will be today 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home and 30 minutes prior to the service on Tuesday.

PHILADELPHIA Services for Dora Helen Moree will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at McClain-Hays Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. David Moree officiating. Burial will be in Carolina Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Moree, 64, of Byram, died Saturday, May 4, 2002, at Whispering Pines Hospice Hospital in Ridgeland.
Survivors include her husband, Clois Moree of Jackson; daughters, Shelia Harlow of Jackson and Darlene Oliver of Tupelo; three grandchildren; a sister, Offie Oakes of Kosciusko; and a brother, Delbert McDonald of Houston, Texas.

Ms. Hamilton, 19, of Bailey, died Friday, May 3, 2002, at Rush Foundation Hospital. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, the Meridian Path Finder Club and active in church and school.
Survivors include her mother, Lisa Strauser and her husband, Terry, of Bailey; her father, Larry Hamilton and his wife, Eileen, of New Orleans; her fianc, David Vidal of Bailey; two sisters, Amy and Elizabeth Hamilton of Bailey; two brothers, Todd and P.J. Hamilton of New Orleans; grandparents, Joseph and Carolyn Swistek of Bailey; her grandfather, Marvin Hamilton of Freeport, Maine; a step-sister and brother, Denise and Steven Strauser of Pearl; aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her step-step-father, Jeffrey Richardson; and her grandmother, Hattie Hamilton.

OXFORD Services for Nathan Hodges Jr. will be held Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at Tallahatchie Oxford Missionary Baptist Association Building. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery with Hodges Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hodges, 78, of Oxford, died Friday, May 3, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi. He was a native of Meridian and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include six daughters, Cora Williams of Atlanta, LaVera Hodges, Meta Anderson, Tonya Woods, Diane Young and Lisa Corrothers, all of Oxford; a sister, Elnora Cole of Chicago; 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie A. Hodges.
