Lady Cougars bounce back with win over Union

DECATURThe Newton County Lady Cougars picked up their 26th win of the season, by downing Union 8-1, Saturday afternoon here at Lady Cougar Field.
Union head coach Ricky Casey said they had their chances.
Union jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, when Loren Kennedy was walked in by Newton County pitcher, Lauren Barrett.
In the third inning, Barrett survived a bases loaded jam, to keep the Lady Yellow Jackets from scoring the the inning.
The Lady Cougars had warm bats in the third inning, as they rolled off a pair of hits to score four runs. Barrett, Holley Jackson, Dominque Mapp, and Joy Cavenaugh scored for Newton County with Kristin Chaney and Shelley Ferguson picking up the RBIs.
Newton County exploded again in the fifth inning, with five consecutive hits to make the score 8-1. Chaney lead off with a single, followed by a single by Krisi Harris. Mapp scored Chaney on a single to left field. Cavenaugh singled to give Ferguson the chance to get a RBI. With the bases loaded, Ferguson singled in Harris to make the score 7-1. Suzanne Chaney took the final RBI, on a sacrifice fly to the outfield.
Barrett took the win for the Lady Cougars, while Lindsey Cassel suffered the loss.
The Lady Cougars improved to 26-5 on the year.
