Local Prep Players of the Week

Football
Meridian High – Junior cornerback Leslie Rush had a pass deflection and a couple of big tackles for Meridian High Friday night.
Lamar – Sophomore tailback Dylan Anderson racked up 10 rushes for 132 yards and one touchdown. "He played real well," said head coach Mac Barnes. "He gave us a spark. I don't know what else to say."
Southeast Lauderdale – Senior running back Travis Reed ended up with 142 yards of total offense including a 90 yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
Clarkdale – Senior running back Thomas Waters racked up 98 yards on the ground including four touchdowns. "We challenged him and he ran hard," said head coach Bubba Hathorn. "He played with a lot of effort."
Northeast – Sophomore outside linebacker Lavaris Portis registered two quarterback sacks and a load of tackles. He also deflected the final two Southeast passes in overtime to hold them. "He was in the right place at the right time," said head coach Andy Stevens. "He really knocked some people around."
West Lauderdale – Credit goes to the entire Knights offensive line including Matt Smith, Richie McAlister, Brandon Flake, Bradley Newell, and Clay Pope. "They really controlled the line of scrimmage," said head coach Stan McCain. "We were able to run the football very well behind them.
Softball
Clarkdale – Jor'Dan Orr had a big day for the Clarkdale Lady Bulldogs during the New Hope Invitational Saturday. Orr, who plays left centerfield for the Lady Bulldogs, is batting .650. During the tournament, she knocked in 3 RBI and hit a triple against Columbus.
West Lauderdale: Amy Frazier is West Lauderdale's player of the week. The junior second baseman is batting .652 for the Lady Knights. So far this season, she has 21 hits, five doubles, three triples, one home run and 20 RBI.
Meridian High: Eron Hodgins went 4-for-4 in a tough game with Amory to earn player of the week honors for the Meridian High girls softball team.
Northeast Lauderdale: Pitcher Blair Rawson is the player of the week for Northeast Lauderdale. Northeast's only action last week came in an 18-1 win over South Jones.
Note: Southeast Lauderdale did not play last week because of rainouts.
