Professional in the textile chemical business
Gainesville, Ga, Services for Charles M. Lindsay Jr. were held Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001 at Grace Episcopal Church with the Revs. Fred L. Jones and John Eckhardt officiating. Wages and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Lindsay, 80, of Gainesville, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001. He was born in Orangeburg, S.C. and attended Sewanee Military Academy and The Citadel. He was the third of five generations to attend The Citadel. He served with the U.S. Army Infantry during World War II and was discharged as a Captain. He and his wife Jane moved to Gainesville in 1953. He was an active member of Grace Episcopal Church, having served on the Vestry and as Junior and Senior Warden. His professional career was in the textile chemical business.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Adams Lindsay of Meridian, Miss.; a daughter, Anne Labaire and her husband, Ron, of Lilburn; a son, Charles Lindsay and his wife, Sallie, of Columbia, S.C.; a sister, Polly L. Cochran of Gainesville; two sisters-in-law, Betty Jean Christman and her husband, Milon, of Gainesville and Betsy Barrell Weems of Meridian; two grandchildren, Jane Dickson Lindsay and Charles M. Lindsay IV; and several nieces and nephews.
JAMES M. BRIGGS
Retired railroad employee
Services for James M. "Red" Briggs were held Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001 at 2 p.m. at Barham Chapel with the Revs. Paul Davis and Malcolm Lewis officiating. Burial was in Briggs Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Briggs, 74, of Meridian, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, at Rush Foundation Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Briggs were married for 46 years. He was a member of Northcrest Baptist Church and an honorary member of Briggs Chapel. He retired from GM&O Railroad and from I.C.G. Railroad. He was a lifetime member of V.F.W. and D.A.V. He was also a Mason and served in World War II. He owned and operated Briggs Store and Bait Shop for many years and was also a tree farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie Ann Briggs of Meridian; two daughters, Annie Goss and her husband, Mike, and Dotti Briggs, all of Meridian; a son, Capp Briggs of Meridian; a sister, Dot Briggs Conner of DeKalb; four grandchildren, Amber Goss, Phillip Hays, Lee Hays and James Bradley Briggs.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Brown Briggs, and his parents, Edgar and Laura Briggs.
The family requests memorials be made to a charity of choice or East Mississippi Community College Chapel Fund.
Pallbearers were John Dirksen, Greg Briggs, Joe Reid, Robbie Everett, Billy Harry Jr., Ed Edmonds, Martin Buchanan and Dan Herrington.
Honorary pallbearers were the men's Sunday school class of Northcrest Baptist Church and retired railroad men.
LOUISE MORGAN ANDERS
Retired from Anders Furniture Company
Services for Louise Morgan Anders will be held today at 10 a.m. at James F. Webb Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Robert Horel and Sam Hull officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
Mrs. Anders, 86, of Meridian, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at Beverly Healthcare-Broadmoor. She was retired from Anders Furniture Company and was a member of East End United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Jimmie Anders Wells of Meridian; two sons, Billy Anders and his wife, Teresa, and Wayne Anders and his wife, Lynda, all of Meridian; six grandchildren, Cindy Colvin and her husband, Ronnie, David Anders and his wife, Kristi, Jason Anders, Kevin Anders and his wife, Sheri, Justin Anders and Jennifer Wells; five great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Ora Willis of Meridian.
She was preceded in death by her husband, M.R. "Bilbo" Anders and a son-in-law, Jim Wells.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, her great-grandson, Matt Colvin, and Frank Brewer.
The family requests memorials be made to the American Heart Association or a favorite charity.
MARY SCOTT MCGEE
FAIRFIELD, Ala. Services for Mary Scott McGee will be held today at 11 a.m. at Sixth Avenue Baptist Church of Birmingham. Graveside service will be held at East Grave Yard in Enterprise, Miss. at 3:30 p.m. with Scott-McPherson Funeral Home officiating.
Mrs. McGee, 99, of Stonewall, Miss. and Birmingham, died Wednesday Jan. 31, 2001.
Survivors include two brothers, Everett "Uncle Buddy" Scott and William "Uncle Baby" Scott, both of Stonewall; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil McGee, and two children, Arthur Toole Sr. and Bernice Toole.
EDNA LEE LEWIS
Homemaker
DEKALB Services for Edna Lee Lewis will be held today at 1 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church in Collinsville with the Rev. Chester Davis Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with E.E. McDonald Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Lewis, 93, of Collinsville, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include a son, Clinton Lewis Jr. and his wife, Christine, of Collinsville; a daughter, Julia Dixon and her husband, Rudolph of Milwaukee, Wis.; a sister, Beulah McDonald of Meridian, nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sisters.
Visitation will be held today from noon-1 p.m. at the church.
SAMMY DARNELL CLARK
Services for Sammy Darnell Clark will be held today at 1 p.m. at New Hope United Methodist Church with the Rev. Eddie L. Jones officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery in New Hope with Enterprise Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Clark, 22, of DeKalb, died in Oklahoma City.
Survivors include three brothers, Daniel M. Jones of Minneapolis, Lamont Clark of Port Hurum, Mich. and Aundra Elerly of Meridian; a sister, Tonyia R. Clark of Aurora, Ill.; his grandmother, Lillie Clark Thomas of DeKalb; and his father, Percy L. Clark of DeKalb.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Sandra P. Jones.
