Red Bay gets easy homecoming win
“We wanted to come out here tonight and take care of business and take care of ourselves, and we were able to do that,” said Red Bay coach Michael Jackson. “A lot of kids were able to play, and it was good homecoming win for our school.”
Red Bay scored the first 38 points of the game unanswered.
After the opening score by King, he added another on the Tigers’ next drive, running the ball 50 yards to pay dirt to give Red Bay a 14-0 lead.
Colin Humphres added a four-yard touchdown run with 4:47 to go in the first quarter to give the Tigers a 22-0 lead. Red Bay scored again with 1:47 to go in the opening quarter on a 41-yard touchdown pass from Kolby Bragwell to Mason Holt to give the Tigers a 30-0 lead.
Chase Allen scored on a one-yard run in the second quarter to give the Tigers a 38-0 lead.
Tharptown got on the board at the close of the first half on a 17-yard pass from Carson Petree to Blake Daily to make the score 38-7 at halftime.
King scored his third touchdown of the game with 7:37 to go in the third quarter on a 10-yard run, while Tharptown added another score with 7:23 to go in the third quarter on a 65-yard pass from Briley Kerby to Luis Macias.
Red Bay scored three more touchdowns in the game: a one-yard run by Allen, a 16-yard run by Nathan Elrod and a nine-yard run by Blake Nix.
Allen led the Tigers with 136 yards rushing on 20 carries and two touchdowns. King ran the ball six times for 107 yards and three touchdowns. Humphres had nine carries for 53 yards and a touchdown. Bragwell completed four of six passes for 99 yards and a touchdown.
Reagan Kuykendall was crowned homecoming queen in ceremonies prior to the game.
Tharptown will close out the season Friday night on the road at Vina. Red Bay will end the regular season Friday night hosting Wilson. The Tigers will host a first-round playoff game next week.
