Red Bay girls get big area win

The Red Bay Tigers took a big step toward solidifying the second seed in their area tournament last week with a big 62-28 win over the Sulligent Blue Devils. The win gave Red Bay a 2-1 record in their area. Their only loss came to area leader Phil Campbell.

Red Bay raced out to a 20-5 first quarter lead and led 33-18 at halftime. Red Bay extended the lead to 52-27 at the end of the third quarter and held the Blue Devils to just one point in the fourth quarter.

Reagan Kuykendall led the Tigers with 14 points. She was followed by Carlie Lindley and Destiny McCollister, who scored 11 points each. Savannah Shaw added nine points, Mallori Miller eight points, Macy Faulkner four points and Lila Blackburn and Kaylee Markham two points each.

Red Bay 51, Hamilton 47

Kuykendall scored 27 points to power the Red Bay Tigers, who had to make a fourth-quarter comeback, to get a win over the Hamilton Aggies last week. The Tigers scored 18 points in the fourth quarter to secure the 51-47 come-from-behind win.

Destiny McCollister (8), Faulkner (5), Lindley (4), Shaw (3), Brooke Shewbart (3) and Emma McCollister (1) all scored for Red Bay.

Red Bay 66, Tremont (Miss.) 62

Kuykendall scored 19 points, including going 9-of-14 from the free-throw line, in the fourth quarter and two overtimes to help propel the Red Bay Tigers past Tremont last week, 66-62.

Red Bay led Tremont 17-7 at the end of the first quarter and extended that lead to 25-22 at halftime. Tremont outscored Red Bay 31-28 in the second half to send the game into overtime. ‘

Both teams played to a 59-59 tie in the first overtime before Red Bay pulled away in the second overtime.

Shaw followed Kuykendall with 11 points. Miller added nine points. Faulkner (6), Destiny McCollister (5) and Blackburn (2) also scored for Red Bay.
