The Southeast Lauderdale baseball season is just around the corner, and the Tigers have very high hopes for 2004.
The Tigers will have several familiar faces returning from an 11-10 squad from 2003, and head coach Jonathan Wells also looks for great things from his team this year.
The one aspect that is going to be key will be pitching, according to Wells. The Tigers will have four pitchers that will be looked upon for many quality innings.
Brandon Booker will be looked on to carry some of the load for the Tigers on the mound, as one of the team's starting pitchers. Booker will also be seeing a lot of playing time at a variety of positions in the infield for the Tigers, and Wells said Booker is a valuable asset to the team.
Senior Trey Whitehead will also be in the starting rotation for Southeast Lauderdale and will return to play in the outfield. Left-handed junior Chris Butler will also be in the starting rotation for Southeast Lauderdale and will also be seeing action in the outfield on defense.
Southeast Lauderdale will also return plenty of pop in the lineup from a year ago that has many of the same old faces for the fans at Southeast.
Anthony Linton, Trevor Horne, and Kyle Dawson return to the order this seasons and will see plenty of action in the lineup for the Tigers.
Other seniors that will see action this spring for Southeast Lauderdale are Brett Harper and William Shelby. Southeast Lauderdale has four seniors and seven juniors which means that the Tigers are not short of experience. Other juniors that will see some playing time for the Tigers include: Drew Harper, David West, and Steven Boyd. Harper also lettered as the quarterback for the Southeast Lauderdale football team and will look to bring several tools to the baseball team as well.
Southeast Lauderdale will begin the season with a big test in the Lauderdale County Tournament against West Lauderdale and Choctaw County (Ala.). Other teams that will highlight the 2004 schedule for Southeast Lauderdale include: Clarkdale, Norhteast Lauderdale, Newton County, Enterprise, and Quitman.
