The Lauderdale County School Board voted at its monthly to reduce the current cheerleading tryout fee from $20 to $10.
Board members also decided students must be currently enrolled in county schools to be eligible for cheerleading tryouts. Cheerleading practices also will remained closed unless prior consent is given by the principal's office.
In other business, the board voted to raise the salaries of coaches and assistant coaches. The pay raises will total more than $67,000 this year. Salaries for individual coaches were not available Thursday.
Board members also promised to look into hiring another school nurse for Lauderdale County schools. The board agreed to hold a special meeting on the issue; however, no date was set.
