Holt named the acting director of NACOLG
MUSCLE SHOALS — Transportation Planning Director Joseph Holt has been named the acting director of the Northwest Alabama Council of Local Governments.
Holt, who has worked for NACOLG for the past 20 years, will take over Oct. 1. He will be acting director until a new director is named by the Budget and Personnel Committee.
He replaces outgoing Executive Director Keith Jones, who is retiring Sept. 30.
Committee Chair Sandra Killen made the announcement during Thursday’s NACOLG board meeting.
Holt said he began working at NACOLG in June 2005 as an intern and started working full time on June 1, 2006.
He graduated from the University of North Alabama in 2006.
Before becoming director of Planning and Transportation, Holt worked in the GIS Mapping Department, and Transportation Planning and Transit departments.
Jones said the executive director’s job will be posted internally to give other NACOLG employees an opportunity to be considered.
Killen said the Budget and Personnel Committee will review the resumes submitted to them and make a recommendation to the full NACOLG board.
The board that selects the new executive director will look different than the one that selected Holt as acting director.
Muscle Shoals Mayor Mike Lockhart, Florence Mayor Andy Betterton, and Haleyville Mayor Ken Sunseri were defeated in their re-election bids.
Killen did not run for another term as mayor of Lexington.
The new mayors of those cities will become members of the NACOLG board after they take office on Nov. 3.
Killen said the three remaining Budget and Personnel Committee members — Franklin County ProbateJudgeBarryMoore, Easterseals Northwest Alabama Director Jerry Gross, and Hackleburg Mayor Darryl Colburn — will appoint new members to the committee.
Jones said the new director should be named in November or December.
Killen said the Budget and Personnel Committee also reappointed NACOLG Treasurer Jennifer McKinnish.
Committee members presented Jones with a plaque recognizing him for his 44 years of service with NACOLG, including 25 as executive director.
