Wayne County advances to 5A South State

Both the Wayne County War Eagles and Lady War Eagles earned tickets to the Class 5A South State championship round next week with semifinal wins over Brandon Tuesday in the Division 6-5A Tournament at Forest Hill High School in Jackson.
Wayne Co. girls 72
Brandon 42
The Lady War Eagles jumped out to a 36-18 halftime lead in handling Brandon.
Wayne County, 21-6, got 22 points from Carla Bartee and 15 from Ratassia Worsham.
Brandon got 12 points from Holly Dial and 10 from Tonisha Agee.
Wayne Co. boys 78
Brandon 37
The War Eagles built a 60-27 advantage over the first three periods in drubbing Brandon.
Dietric Slater led Wayne County, 20-3, with 28 points.
2-4A at Noxubee County
Neshoba Central 53
Aberdeen 33
The Lady Rockets advanced to the semifinals with the 20-point victory over Aberdeen.
Neshoba Central, 16-13, got 17 points from India Backstrom, 14 from Krystal Wells, and nine from Kelli Thompson.
The Lady Rockets led 23-6 at halftime.
Aberdeen, 5-23, got 11 points from Ashley Sims.
Louisville girls 68
West Point 51
Denetra Forrest tossed in 25 points to send Louisville to the semifinal round. Louisville, 21-6, also got 17 points from LaTasha Hickman and 12 from Erica Hardin.
West Point, 2-23, got 23 points from Katrina Holbrook and 13 from Ebony Fears.
Louisville led 27-22 at halftime.
Aberdeen boys 54
Neshoba Central 45
The Rockets saw their year conclude with an 18-11 mark following their loss to Aberdeen.
Neshoba got 19 points from Calvin Parker, 11 from Anthony Pickens, and 10 from Eric Truss.
Aberdeen, 14-16, outscored the Rockets 36-20 in the second half after trailing 25-18 at intermission.
The Bulldogs got 12 points from Jarvis Howard, 11 from Jerreald Hickman, and 10 from Orion Ward.
New Hope boys 55
Louisville 52
The Wildcats ended their season at 13-13 after winning nine of their first 11 games.
New Hope, 18-5, led 39-28 going into the fourth quarter.
Louisville got 15 points from Andre Coleman and 10 from Ryan Hudson.
Ben Upton's 22 points paced New Hope.
7-2A at Taylorsville
Seminary 72
Enterprise 48
Seminary outscored Enterprise in all four quarters of its win at Taylorsville.
Scott Mosley led Enterprise with 14 points. Mike Watts led Seminary with 20.
5-1A at Ethel

Noxapater 37
Noxapater saw its season end with a first-round loss to the Benoit team. Brooks led 22-3 after one quarter.
Noxapater got 19 points from Stephanie Blankenship and 10 from Shawnta Hawthorne.
Nanih Waiya girls 57
Greenville St. Joe 28
The Lady Warriors built a 44-14 first half lead in cruising past St. Joe.
Nanih Waiya, 12-11, got nine points each from Christy Hickman and Ashley Pugh. Cynthia Madison added seven.
Mikia Simpson led St. Joe with 10.
