Space heater apparent cause of fire

A home on Johnny Bailey Road burned down Friday night after a space heater in the kitchen caught fire, Bailey Fire Chief Stanley Lucky said.
Firefighters from the Bailey, Northeast and Sam Dale stations responded, which Lucky said happened at about 7 p.m. at a one-story house that had a mobile home attached to it.
Lucky said the fire began in the trailer. The occupant, an elderly wheelchair-bound man, smelled smoke and left immediately.
Firefighters were at the scene for about two hours. Lucky said he believes the fire began because the space heater was too close to combustible materials.
