Belgreen Bulldogs win area softball tourney

The Belgreen Bulldogs overcame some bumps in the road this year to once again earn an area championship by beating the Sulligent Blue Devils in back-to-back games.

Belgreen (16-21-2) beat Sulligent 9-0 in their opening game of the tournament and laid in wait to beat the Blue Devils 6-1 for the championship.

In the championship game, Caleigh Lawson singled in the first run of the game for Belgreen. The Bulldogs added a run in the third when Zoey Blaxton was hit by a pitch to give Belgreen a 2-0 lead.

Belgreen added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on three hits. Kendra Williams homered to right field, scoring two runs. Jemma Moore hit a solo home run to center field.

Blaxton earned the win for the Bulldogs allowing nine hits and one run over seven innings, striking out four and walking one.

Williams and Moore got two hits each for Belgreen. Williams had two RBIs and scored two runs from the middle of the lineup and went 2-for-3 on the day.

In the first meetup of the two teams, Blaxton threw a complete game shutout to lead the Bulldogs to the 9-0 win.

A six-run fifth inning highlighted the day for Belgreen. Williams hit a solo home run to centerfield. Mackinley Hogan, Marlie Terry, and Shaylyn Bryant all singled in a run.

Belgreen piled up 11 hits in the game. Bryant, Moore, and Terry each had two hits. Bryant went 2-for-4 with four RBIs.
