Aug. 15-16 – Franklin County Watermelon Festival: The 44th annual Franklin County Watermelon Festival brings two days of live music, contests and community fun to downtown Russellville. Events begin Aug. 15 with an opening ceremony at 6:30 p.m., featuring the National Anthem sung by Kim Clonts. Music follows with Music City Misfits at 7 p.m. and Austin Bohannon at 8:30 p.m. Aug. 16 events include a car and truck show from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Jackson Avenue and the Watermelon Run, with the 5K starting at 7:30 a.m. and the 1-mile fun run immediately after. Registration for both races begins at 6 a.m. at the Russellville High School fieldhouse. The watermelon contests will be held at First Baptist Church Park, 201 Washington Ave. Northwest. Registration opens at 10 a.m., with weighing and judging at 11 and winners announced at noon. Free slices of watermelon will be available both Friday and Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday night entertainment features The Midnighters at 6 p.m., Dixie Mafia at 7, and Will Moseley Music at 8:30. Admission is free.
Aug. 21 – Phil Campbell Candidate Question and Answer – 6-8 p.m., Phil Campbell Town Hall, for candidates on the ballot for the Aug. 26 municipal election.
Aug. 29 – Fifth Friday: Downtown Russellville presents its second Fifth Friday event from 6 to 9 p.m. Includes live music, food trucks, local vendors and family friendly fun.
