June 13 – Barbecue Fundraiser – The Spruce Pine Historical Society will receive all proceeds from the summer fundraiser, the Willaim Bishop Barbecue, June 13 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Spruce Pine Community Center in Spruce Pine. Cost is $10 and includes pulled pork, baked beans, slaw, roll, dessert and a drink.

June 14 – Phil Campbell Pageant – The Phil Campbell Pageant will take place at 10 a.m. on June 14 at Northwest Shoals Community College in Phil Campbell. Contact Michelle Marbutt at 205412-6323.

June 20-21 – Phil Campbell Festival The Phil Campbell Festival takes place June 20-21 at Memorial Park downtown. Friday kicks off the entertainment with Jase Swinney singing the “Star-Spangled Banner” at 5:30 p.m.; 6 p.m. – Pylant Family; 7 p.m. – Purpose; 8 p.m. – Kingsmen Quartet.

Saturday’s events start with the opening ceremony at 11 a.m., followed by Pine Hill Counties at 4:30 p.m., the Midnighters at 6 p.m., the Porch Dwellers at 7:30 p.m. and Austin Bohannon at 9:00 p.m. For information, contact Phil Campbell Town Hall at 205-993-5313.

June 22-25 – St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church VBS, 5017 Hwy 79, Phil Campbell. June 22, 5-8 p.m.; June 23-25, 6-8 p.m. Classes for all ages.

June 28 – Orange Baptist Church VBS, 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., one-day only. 8153 Hwy 34, Russellville. Theme: Magnified. Open to all ages.

July 13-18 – Grace Baptist Church VBS,

6-8:30 p.m., 501 East Florence St, Russellville. Open to all ages.

July 16-18 – Cedars Church VBS, 6-8:30 p.m., 109 W. Lawrence St, Russellville. Theme: God’s Great Galaxy. Register via the Cedars Church app.

July 19Crooked Oak Baptist Church VBS, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., one-day only. Includes lunch, bounce house, and waterslide. Bring a swimsuit and towel.

June 21 – Swap Meet – A family friendly swap meet will take place June 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Cowboy Church of Franklin County, 25100 Highway 24, Russellville. There is a non-refundable vendor fee of $10 for nonelectric and a non-refundable vendor fee of $15 for electric. Bring your own tables and tents. Additional dates include Aug. 2,16, 30; Sept. 13 and Sept. 27; Oct. 11 and Oct. 25 and Nov. 8 and Nov. 22. For additional information, call 256-2750730.

July 21-25 – Cowboy Church of Franklin County VBS, 6-8 p.m. nightly. Light meal served each evening.

July 4 – Jam on Sloss Lake – The City of Russellville’s annual Jam on Sloss Lake will take place to celebrate the Fourth of July.

July 19 – Franklin County Watermelon Pageant: The Franklin County Watermelon Pageant takes place July 19 in the Russellville City Schools auditorium. The deadline to register is June 19 at 4 p.m. Applications are open, and the registration fee is $50. That includes a photograph. Queens will be presented at the opening ceremony of the Watermelon Festival on Aug. 15.

July 26 – July Fest – The Town of Vina’s annual July Fest takes place.

Aug. 29 – Fifth Friday – Downtown Russellville presents its second Fifth

Friday event from 6 to 9 p.m.

Aug. 15-16 – Franklin County Watermelon Festival

Sept. 27 – Red Bay Founders Fest

Oct. 11 – Spirit of Hodges

Oct. 18 – Spruce Pine Day

Oct. 25 – Franklin County Latino Heritage Festival

Oct. 31 – Fifth Friday – Downtown Russellville presents its third Fifth Friday event, with a to-be-determined “thriller” theme from 6 to 9 p.m.

Al-Anon  

Al-Anon meets at 6 p.m. every Thursday at the First Baptist Church in downtown Russellville across from the Roxy Theatre. 
 
American Legion  

American Legion Post 64 regularly meets the second Thursday of every month at the North Highlands Church of Christ fellowship hall with the meal at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting at 7 p.m.  

Alzheimer’s Support   

The Alzheimer’s Support meeting is held at 10 a.m. on the third Tuesday of every month at Generations of Red Bay. For information, call 256-356-4982.  

Farmers Markets
The Phil Campbell Farmers Market is set up in front of town hall on Fridays and Saturdays. For information, call 205-993-5313. The Red Bay Farmers Market is open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Family Fun Park. For information, call 256-668-7049. The Russellville Farmers Market is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, next to the A.W. Todd Centre in downtown Russellville, from 6 a.m. to noon. For information, call 256-668-7649.  

Food Giveaway  

Held the fifth Thursday of each month at the First Methodist Church in downtown Russellville, call 256-332-2955 for information.  

Food and Clothing Outreach  

Every Monday from 10 a.m. to noon, Good Shepherd Catholic Outreach has an outreach program to help those in need of food, clothing and partial bill assistance. Stop by Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 1700 N. Jackson Ave., Russellville, at that time to seek any assistance needed.
 
Grief Support Group   

A grief support group will meet from 9 to 10 a.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at the Russellville Public Library. Hosted by Amedisys Hospice. The group is free and is open to the public. Call 256-760-7877 with any questions.
 
Grief Support: “Getting Well Together”  

“Getting Well Together,” a grief support group, will meet at 10 a.m. each month on the third Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church in Russellville. This is a free support group for anyone who would like to attend. This event is provided by Kindred Hospice of Florence. For information call 256-764-0873.
 
Masonic Lodge  

The following is the monthly meeting schedule for the Lodges in Franklin County: Belgreen 428 – first and third Monday; Burleson 143 – second and fourth Monday; Russellville 371 – first and third Tuesday; Newburg 388 – first Thursday; Order of the Eastern Star – second and fourth Tuesday; Phil Campbell 880 – first and third Thursday.
 
Mountain Valley Hee Haw  

There is live music at Mountain Valley Hee Haw in Phil Campbell every Saturday night beginning at 7 p.m. featuring The House Band. For information, call 256-810-4840.  

Shrine Club  

Meetings are held in Russellville on the second Tuesday of each month at the Cutter Barber Shop, Spruce Pine 608. The club also meets on the second and fourth Thursdays. All meetings are held at 7 p.m. 

Take Off Pounds Sensibly  

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) weight loss support group meets each Monday at 6 p.m. at the Russellville Recreation Center. Weigh-ins begin at 5:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to drop in for a free meeting visit or call 256-446-5962 for information.  

VFW Post 5184  

VFW Post 5184 meets at 7 p.m. every fourth Thursday at the VFW Hall on West Lawrence Street.
