Russellville softball team hosts local programs for Spring Frenzy tourney

Russellville’s varsity softball squad had a busy week that included hosting the annual RHS Spring Frenzy Friday and Saturday.

Hamilton 2, Russellville 1

The Lady Golden Tigers went to Hamilton March 6 and fell in a close one to the Aggies.

Russellville had seven hits – from Summer Butler, Jaiden Calvert, Addison Holcomb, Emma Campbell, Jenna Whitfield, Natalie Nichols and Ticelee Gholston. Nichols had the RBI for Russellville.

Paislee James pitched all six innings for RHS. She struck out six, issued no walks and allowed five hits.

West Morgan 10, Russellville 7

West Morgan visited RHS March 7 and took the high-scoring contest. The Rebels scored nine runs in the game’s first three innings.

Butler had three hits, including a triple and three RBIs, for Russellville. Adding two hits each were Holcomb, Campbell and Whitfield. Brooklyn Butler, Calvert, James and Nichols also hit safely.

Russellville 14, Mars Hill 8

Holcomb had a big game at Mars Hill March 9. The eighth-grader hit two home runs, had four RBIs and scored four runs.

Whitfield went four-for-five with a double. Campbell added two doubles and a single, and James had a triple. Brooklyn Butler and Holcomb did the pitching, with Brooklyn Butler getting the win.

Russellville 11, Florence 3

The Lady Tigers continued their hot hitting during a win over Florence to open the Spring Frenzy.

The five-inning contest featured 10 RHS hits; Whitfield led the way with three. Summer Butler had two and was joined in the hit column by Haylee Rikard, Holcomb, Campbell, James and Nichols. Holcomb and James pitched for Russellville.

Russellville 4, Wilson 3

A walk-off hit by Campbell finished a three-run eighth inning comeback win for Russellville over Wilson. Campbell had two hits, and additional RHS hits came from Whitfield, Holcomb, James and Rikard.

James pitched a complete game for the win. She struck out six and walked two.

Russellville 7, Deshler 5

The Lady Golden Tigers extended their winning streak to four with a victory over Deshler Saturday.

Holcomb homered and had two RBIs, and Whitfield had three hits, including a double. Campbell and Calvert each had two hits and a double. Summer Butler, Brooklyn Butler, James and Nichols also hit safely. Brooklyn Butler pitched all five innings for the win.

Lauderdale County 10, Russellville 5

The Spring Frenzy wrapped up for RHS with a game versus LCHS. Summer Butler had two hits, and Holcomb again homered. Russellville (6-9) also had hits from Brooklyn Butler, Whitfield, Campbell, Calvert, Nichols and Gholston.
