Daniel “Dan” Nedford Williams

Daniel “Dan” Nedford Williams, 86, of Russellville, passed away March 26 at Sunset Manor in Guin.

Dan was born Jan. 9, 1935, in Clanton and grew up on a peach farm. He graduated from Chilton County High School and attended Auburn University. He finished his business degree at Livingston University after proudly serving his country in the Army during the Korean War.

After his marriage to Anita Lockhart, he moved to Russellville in 1961. He managed Elmore’s Department Store and shortly after that was employed as a foreman at Reynolds Aluminum Plant.

After closure of this plant, he began a career in photography. He enjoyed taking pictures for the Parks and Recreation ball teams and also of many babies and weddings.

After a few years, he moved to Montgomery to work for SiMetco Aluminum Company.

He and Anita had a long-distance relationship for a year, and then they moved back to the farm in Clanton.

Russellville was still home to him, so after retirement, he moved back to Russellville to enjoy all of his grandchildren’s many activities. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly, and they all loved their “PaPaw.”

His smile, laughter, and joking will be missed by so many people. He was a loving husband, father, PaPaw and friend to so many.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Crawford and Dean Williams; sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Leonard Moore; and son, Lance Daniel Williams.

Dan leaves to cherish his memory his wife of more than 60 years, Anita Lockhart Williams; daughters, Tanya (Kevin) Bradford and Tracy (David) Ward; grandchildren, Rebekah (William) Black, Rachel (John) Seal, Abby Jane (Sam) Armstrong, Channing (Bobby) Wright, Jake (Abby) Ward, Judd Ward, Jaret Ward, Lexi (Jake) McClendon and Maggie Williams; great-grandchildren, Campbell Wright, Lee Charles Seal and Ledger Ward; brother Mike (Kaye) Williams; special cousin, Nell Tucker; brothers and sisters-in-laws; and nieces, nephews and many friends.

The visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. March 28 at Spry Memorial Chapel. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. in the chapel with Bro. Richard Parking speaking and followed by military honors. The burial will be at Franklin Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Jake Ward, Judd Ward, Jaret Ward, Bobby Wright, William Black, John Seal, Sam Armstrong and Jake McClendon.

The family would like to extend a sincere thanks to Gary Thomas, The County Cottage and Sunset Manor Nursing Home for the loving care you provided to our dad and grandfather.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 16th Floor, New York, NY 10001; email, info@alzfdn.org.
