Keep your children active this summer

When they are out of school, there can be a tendency for children to while away summer days in front of the TV or on the many devices that call out for our attention.

We’re not against “screen time,” and everybody has to make their own decisions about how much TV/phone/tablet usage is healthy. We do, however, want to make this point: There are other options.

Franklin County offers no shortage of opportunities for children to get out of the house and enjoy some fun community activities.

Whether it’s crafting fun at The Little Stitch, story time at Russellville or Weatherford libraries or a local youth sports camp, the options are wide-ranging. Red Bay Water Park and splash pad, Russellville pool and Phil Campbell Splash Pad are all open for business, not to mention our local lakes and parks.

From Vacation Bible Schools to day camps, not to mention family activities like Jam on Sloss Lake or the Watermelon Festival, there’s plenty to fill the calendar and keep children active this summer. Whether you’re taking a traditional “family vacation” or not, don’t let summer pass by without taking advantage of all the great activities Franklin County has to offer.

Make sure they have a good answer to the question, “So, what did you do this summer?”
