THS defense overpowers Bobcats for come-from-behind win

Winston Nolen scored 16 second-half points to power a 56-52 come-from-behind win over the Phil Campbell Bobcats last week. Tharptown held Phil Campbell to 17 second-half points.

Phil Campbell jumped out to a 23-11 lead over Tharptown behind three-pointers by Luke Garrison, Brett Saint, and Isaac Riddle. Phil Campbell extended that lead to 35-20 at halftime.

Riddle scored 16 first-half points for the Bobcats.

Tharptown exploded for 23 points in the third quarter to cut Phil Campbell’s lead to one point, 44-43, at the end of the third quarter. Nolen and Les Montgomery hit two three-pointers each in the third quarter. The Wildcats outscored the Bobcats 13-8 in the fourth quarter to get the win.

Nolen led Tharptown with 22 points and seven rebounds. Edward Lopez added 11 points and seven rebounds. Montgomery scored nine points, all of which came in the Wildcats’ big third quarter.

Riddle led Phil Campbell with 23 points. Luke Garrison added seven points, and Nate Owens and Brett Saint scored six points each.

Tharptown 67, Cherokee 38

After a sluggish defensive start on a Saturday afternoon, the Tharptown Wildcats crushed the Cherokee Indians 67-38 in their last regular season game of the year.

Cherokee led Tharptown 17-16 at the end of the first quarter, but Tharptown outscored Cherokee 51-21 the rest of the way for the win.

Nolen led the Wildcats with 27 points, 21 of which came in the first half. Nolen also had four assists.

Hayden Moss scored 12 points on four three-pointers and had four steals. Carson Petree added seven points, Ruben Alfaro five points, Alex Flores four points, Lopez four points, Colton Simmons three points, Yovani Gomez three points and Montgomery two points.
