The Golden Tigers went to Central Dec. 11 and used a balanced scoring attack to take down the Wildcats.

Will Bonner pitched in with nine points, while Jeb Bishop scored six. Caden Parker and Jamaal Hubbard had four each, and Brooks Scott scored two points.

Buckhalter had a big night at Haleyville Thursday, leading RHS with 29 points and passing the 1,000-point mark for his varsity career.

The senior hit five three-pointers on his way to his season high in points in a game for the No. 7-ranked team in the ASWA Class 5A poll.

“He’s a special kid and a special player,” said Russellville head coach Patrick Odom. “He deserves it, and obviously, he’s not done. I love him, and I’m proud of him, and the fun part is seeing … how he’s matured not just as a player but as a young man.”

The Golden Tigers held the Lions to 13 first half points, and RHS got additional scoring from McNutt (13), Will Bonner (9), Colin Bonner (9), Parker (5), Bishop (4) and Scott (1). Dyas scored three points in the contest but left in the second quarter with a sprained ankle that could keep him out of action for a few games.
