Vina drops two during holidays

The Vina Red Devils played well but couldn’t overcome early deficits, losing two games prior to Christmas to Lynn and Shoals Christian.

Lynn 58, Vina 44

Vina jumped out to a 12-7 first quarter lead over the Lynn Bears but couldn’t sustain the pace. Lynn outscored Vina 18-14 in the second quarter to cut the Red Devils’ lead to one, 26-25, at halftime. The Bears blew past the Red Devils in the third quarter, outscoring Vina 20-10 to take a 45-36 lead into the final quarter. Lynn won the fourth quarter 13-8.

Blake Hardin led Vina with 13 points. He was followed by Jackson Landers with 10 points. Austin Harper finished the game with six points, Ethan Colvin with five points, Timothy Newell with four points and Zarek Barnett with three points.

Shoals Christian 74, Vina 69

A fourth-quarter comeback fell just short as the Vina Red Devils lost to the Shoals Christian Flame 74-69.

Shoals Christian raced out ahead of Vina in the first quarter to take a 20-8 lead. The Flame led the Red Devils 38-27 at halftime and extended that lead to 57-44 in the third quarter.

Vina outpaced Shoals Christian 25-17 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough to grab the win.

Hardin led Vina with 17 points. He was followed by Landers and Harper, who scored 13 points each. Tanner McAllister finished the game with 10 points, and Zarek Barnett scored six points. Ethan Colvin and Dawson Miller scored three points each.
