October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month got official recognition at Monday’s Russellville City Council Meeting.

The Russellville Fire Department updated the council and those in attendance about the department’s T-shirt sale effort, which has been annual program of the RFD since 2011.

“It’s been a great thing,” said Fire Chief Joe Mansell. “There have been a lot of people helped.”

Money raised from the sale of T-shirts goes into a fund at Russellville Hospital to help provide testing to detect breast cancer. Roughly, 19 shirts fund the cost of one test, according to RFD’s Rhett Bradford.

Shirts, which are navy with pink detailing, are still available through the end of October.

Mayor David Grissom read a proclamation declaring October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the City of Russellville.

The council also:

– approved the submission of the Foster Grandparent Program grant application for the period of Jan. 1, 2016, through Dec. 31, 2016, and approved the appropriation of $5,365.47 local match in 2016

– waive the rental fee for the Chucky Mullins Center Nov. 15 for a Community Thanksgiving Dinner
