Want to see world champions in action? Now is the time.
The Russellville Rotary Club is hosting a fundraiser on Halloween in which the world champion Russellville Rocket Team will be shooting rockets.
It’s “something to try to help us do some fundraising for the scholarships we do every year,” explained Rotary President Joey Rushing. He said the club wanted to give the community a chance to “see what was done at the championships.”
The event will be held Oct. 31 at 10 a.m. at the Russellville High School Stadium. Tickets will be $10 for adults and $2 for ages 8-19. Children 7 and younger may enter free.
All proceeds will be divided equally between the Russellville Rocket Team to fund their rocket program and the Russellville Rotary Club to provide scholarships.
“There’s a lot of curiosity about the rocketry program after they won the championship,” Rushing said. “It will allow you to see the world’s best rocketry program perform at Russellville stadium … We’d love to have the entire stadium filled.”
Conditions and parameters for the rocket launches will be the same as they were in Paris for the world competition. The rocketry students will aim to meet certain height and time requirements as they launch five to seven rockets in a show set to last about an hour. Rushing said they hope to have few surprises in store to enhance the entertainment.
Tickets can be purchased from any Rotary member; at the Franklin County Times office (ask for Nicole Pell); and at the gate on the day of the event.
