PC alum to coach THS basketball

Tharptown High School has hired Marc Tracy to take over the girls basketball program left vacant with Chad Green’s transfer to Belgreen in the same position. Tracy is a 2004 graduate of Phil Campbell High School.

Tracy is a graduate of Auburn University and the University of West Alabama. He has had stops at Straughn High School in south Alabama, where he served as the B-team and assistant varsity boys coach. He was also the head girls volleyball coach. He served as the head varsity girls basketball coach at Fayette High School for one year. Last year he taught at Deshler High School in Tuscumbia with no coaching duties.

“I decided to take the job at Deshler knowing it did not have any coaching duties because my mother was terminally ill with lung cancer,” said Tracy, whose mother succumbed to the disease in December.

Tracy says he looks forward to coaching again.

“Having the opportunity to come back to Franklin County means a lot to me,” said Tracy.  “Growing up, I always hoped I would be able to return to northwest Alabama and Franklin County.  My wife and I are both very excited and looking forward to getting started soon.”

Tracy said he is eager to get started at Tharptown and get to know the girls.

“My immediate goals for the program are to get to know each other and try to grow as a team,” said Tracy. “From what I already know about this team, they should be able to compete for an area championship and a trip to Hanceville in the very near future.

“Long term, I would like to compete at the state level,” he said.  “I think anyone who is in coaching and is competitive would like to have that goal.”

Tracy’s wife is Bethany. They a son, Samuel, who will be 1 year old in September.
