Sen. Larry Stutts honors Russellville rocket team

Alabama State Sen. Larry Stutts recently welcomed students from Russellville High School’s engineering rocket team to the State Capitol and honored their recent national championship with a Senate resolution he presented to the team on the Senate floor.

“It was a privilege to present a Senate resolution to these hard-working students,” said Stutts. “Their teachers, along with Coach Mark Keeton, have done an excellent job in guiding their educational process. A national championship in rocket engineering is quite a feat.”

The seven-member team won the national Team America Rocketry Challenge in Virginia earlier in May and heads to Paris, France, in June to compete in the International Rocketry Challenge at the Paris Air Show, where they will compete against teams from Britain, France, and Japan.

The Russellville High School team is made up of Katie Burns, Niles Butts, Andrew Heath, Cristian Ruiz, Cady Studdard, Chelsea Suddith and Evan Swinney.
