Phil Campbell

The Phil Campbell Bobcats easily swept the Tharptown Wildcats in their first area contests of the season.  Phil Campbell outscored Tharptown 48-4.  The Bobcats won the games 17-0, 14-1, and 17-3.

“We played well in the series with Tharptown,” said Phil Campbell coach Jonathan Raper.  “It was a good way to start off the area with three big wins.  We got a strong effort offensively and defensively.”

Bobcat pitchers only gave up six hits and struck out 15 batters in the last two games of the series.  Conversely Tharptown pitching walked over thirty Bobcat hitters.

At the plate the top of the lineup got it done for the Bobcats.  Joe Hardy had four hits, scored five runs and had four RBI’s through in the final two games of the series.  Peyton Thomas had three hits, scored three runs and had three RBIs.  Colby Baker had three hits, three runs and three RBIs.  Gage Roberson had four RBIs.  Skylar Tackett had two hits, scored six runs and had three RBIs.

Phil Campbell is 8-2 on the young season.

Russellville

The Golden Tigers had a solid week on the diamond. Russellville picked up a pair of wins on the road at West Point during the week. An 11-3 win in the first game of a double header March 17 put the Golden Tigers at 5-5 on the season before taking the late game 15-6. The following day West Point came to Russellville where the Golden Tigers picked up a 6-1 win before closing out the four-game stretch, 10-0.

The Russellville Golden Tigers hosted Guntersville and East Limestone March 21 and picked up two more wins. Though the Guntersville and East Limestone games were not area games for Russellville, any game they are able to play at this point in the season is vital to their development due to the amount of rainouts and cancelled games so far.
