Earlene Elrod, 87, died Monday, June 3, 2013, in the care of her family.

She was born April 14, 1926, in Fulton, Miss., to the late Jesse and Mary M. Griffus.

She married Cecil Elrod on April 11, 1941, in Vina. They moved to Illinois in 1952 and she worked for over 20 years at Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan working her way to assistant dietician. In 1979, Cecil and Earlene retired to Tremont. They attended Ebenezer Baptist Church in Vina where Earlene served as a Sunday school teacher and volunteered in the nursery. She was always on the go, looking to help others in whatever way she could.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 15, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Vina, with Bro. Billy Nichols and Bro. Matthew Haney officiating. Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery.

Survivors include her sons, Murvin Elrod, Zion, Ill., Nelson Elrod and wife, Glinda, Winthrop Harbor, Ill., and Danny Joe Elrod, Zion, Ill, seven grandchildren, Jim and wife, Kris, Chris and wife, Janet, Gary and wife, Jennifer, Pat and wife, Patricia, Joanna, Ashley and husband, Jeffrey, Noah and wife, Autumn; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; her siblings, Bill Griffus, J.W. Griffus (Cleo) and Birdie Mae Gann and her dear friend, Bill Warblow.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Elrod, her daughter-in-law, Janet M. Elrod and numerous siblings.

Pallbearers will be Jim Elrod, Gary Elrod, Chris Elrod, Pat Elrod, Noah Elrod, and Nathan Elrod.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Friday, June 14, at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay.
