Phil Campbell boys top Hackleburg

J.R. Tidwell/FCT Cameron Harris (23) of the Bobcats makes a lay-up against Hackleburg Saturday night.

The Phil Campbell boy’s varsity team lives and dies by the three-point shot. The team could not get anything to fall early on in its game against Hackleburg Saturday night.

The Bobcats scored only one point in the first quarter, which saw Hackleburg take a 15-1 lead.

Ben Stancil ended the drought for Phil Campbell near the start of the second by finally getting a three to fall. This opened up the floodgates for the Bobcats, who drained 17 three-pointers in the game, winning 73-46.

“Playing the way we did is not hiding it from anyone; we live and die by the three,” Phil Campbell head coach Will Copeland said.

Cameron Harris hit two shots from behind the arc in the second, which saw the Bobcats take the lead at 18-17 with 3:42 remaining in the half.

Hackleburg would only have the lead one more time in the game after Phil Campbell caught fire. The Bobcats went on a 29-6 run in the second quarter to take a nine-point lead into the intermission.

Phil Campbell started the second half with another three by Harris. The Bobcats went into a full-court press for most of the second half, preventing Hackleburg from staging a comeback. Phil Campbell outscored the Panthers 43-25 in the second half, cementing the victory.

Stancil led Phil Campbell with 21 points, including six threes. Harris posted 17 points and five three-pointers. Skeeter Benford had nine points, all tallied off shots from behind the arc. Chase Swinney hit two threes, and Tanner Montgomery hit a three as well. Colton Vickery had 13 points, with most of his total coming in the paint.
