City approves three new liquor licenses
Three area businesses will now be able to sell alcohol to patrons after the Russellville City Council approved liquor licenses for the establishments Monday night.
Rancho Nuevo and El Patron were both approved for Restaurant Retail Liquor Licenses and Mike’s Beverages was approved for a Lounge Liquor-Class II (Package) license.
The approvals were not without opposition as one resident voiced his objections to Rancho Nuevo’s license. Citing concerns about a decline in his property values he asked the council not to approve the license.
The council approved the license with a 4-1 vote. David Grissom was the lone no vote while William Nale abstained.
In other action the council:
•Approved an ordinance to rezone property owned by Elaine McCulloch Calloway from R-3 to B-2 located on Hwy 24.
•Approved an ordinance to rezone property owned by Milton Timmons from R-3 to B-1 located on Waterloo Avenue.
•Authorized bids to be let on two monitor/defibrillators for the Fire Department.
•Approved the police reserve roster.
•Accepted the resignation of Mike Sewell from the Airport Board and the Planning and Zoning Board as well as the resignation of police dispatcher Eddie Puckett.
•Declared vacancies for two police dispatchers.
•Declared a vacancy for Fire Marshall to be filled by promotion from within the Classified Service.
•Approved an agreement for engineering services with Garver for airfield fencing and apron analysis project.
•Approved milling on Madison Street from the intersections with Washington Avenue and Waterloo Avenue.
•Authorized construction of the turn lane on Madison Street at the intersection of Waterloo Avenue.
•Approved a compensation adjustment of 10 percent pay increase for the Account Clerk-Building, License & Zoning Department and the Account Clerk-Administrative Department.
•Gave the mayor approval to sign an agreement with FEMA to reimburse costs the city incurred from the April tornado.
•Agreed to apply for a planning grant and a police grant for electronic fingerprint equipment.
•Agreed to a contract for fireworks for the Fourth of July Celebration.
•Rescheduled the July 4 meeting for July 5.
