Russellville man accused of stealing credit cards

Russellville Police were able to apprehend a burglar who is accused of stealing a credit card from a Russellville residence and using it at a local business.

John Paul Woodruff, 35, 301 Tuscaloosa St., Russellville, was charged with third-degree burglary, second-degree theft of property, first-degree criminal mischief and four counts of fraudulent use of a credit card, Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett said.

According to Hargett, officers received a call on Thursday just before midnight that a residence on Scott Avenue had been broken into.

When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered the suspect had made a forcible entry through the victim’s back door and had stolen a credit card and a digital camera.

Hargett said after the scene was cleared, officers received a call from a local business stating there was someone they believed was possibly using a stolen credit card.

Once officers responded to the business, they found Woodruff in possession of the stolen credit card and took him into custody, Hargett said.

Investigators said Woodruff later confessed to breaking into the home, stealing the credit card and camera and using the credit card at the business.

Both the credit card and the digital camera were recovered.

Woodruff is in custody at the Franklin County Jail. No bond has been set at this time.
