Weekend traffic stop leads to two arrests

Deputies making a routine traffic stop in Spruce Pine this weekend found drugs and paraphernalia linked to a Phil Campbell couple.

Percy Earl King, Kr., 34, and Pamela Zills, 29, both of 178 Alvin Baker Rd. in Phil Campbell, were arrested and charged with second-degree manufacturing of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver, sheriff’s deputies who made a routine traffic stop on Saturday noticed the driver of the car, King, was acting nervous so he was asked to step out of the vehicle.

Once King exited the car, the deputy noticed two white tablets thought to be pills used for manufacturing methamphetamine.

The deputy asked King if he had any other pills or drugs on him and, after obtaining consent to search, the deputy found two bags containing a white powdery substance believed to be meth in King’s pockets, Oliver said.

Investigators said when the deputy searched the vehicle, a glass pipe, additional pills and chemicals used in the manufacturing of meth were also found.

Both King and Zills were released from the Franklin County Jail on $6,500 bonds.
