Lady Golden Tigers finish home schedule with area victory against Athens

The Russellville volleyball team closed out its home schedule with a tri-match against Haleyville and Athens last Thursday.
Although the Lady Golden Tigers lost to the third-ranked Lions 1-2, they did wrap up the third seed in the Class 5A, Area 15 tournament by sweeping Athens 3-0.
It was the second time this season Russellville swept the Eaglettes.
The win over Athens improved Russellville's area record to 2-4 while Athens fell to 0-6 in area play.
Hartselle, ranked fourth, finished area play with a 6-0 record and will host the area tournament either Oct. 13-14. Fifth-ranked Muscle Shoals (4-2) is the No.-2 seed in the tournament.
After wrapping up the third seed, the Lady Golden Tigers played another tri-match at Lawrence County Saturday. Russellville defeated Fairview 2-0 but lost to No.-2 Lawrence County 1-2.
The Lady Golden Tigers completed their regular season Tuesday at Deshler, but the game did not end in time to publish the results in today's edition.
