RED BAY – Red Bay's commuters' morning stop for a coffee and biscuit will be interrupted over the next week as Jack's Restaurant begins to recover from a fire Sunday night.
The Red Bay Fire Department was dispatched to the fire around 11 p.m. after receiving a 911 call from someone who saw smoke coming from the building, Fire Chief Bud Strickland said.
All 16 of Red Bay's firefighters were called to the blaze and were assisted by Vina Fire Department. Firefighters were on the scene for approximately 45 minutes before the fire was extinguished.
Strickland said approximately 25 percent of the building was damaged with the heaviest isolated in the kitchen, where the fire started
"The damage would have been worse had the flames not been doused by a broken water line," Strickland said.
The Jack's crew are working on cleaning up the restaurant, and hope to reopen Monday, Dec. 11, Linda Holcomb, city clerk, said.
