Belgreen Fire Protection District receives funding

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Richard C. Shelby (R-AL), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the Department of Homeland Security will release $112,670 to the Belgreen Fire Protection District in Franklin County. The funding is provided by the Assistance to Firefighters Grants Program and will be used to purchase a new vehicle for the department.
"Firefighters are in the field everyday protecting our citizens," said Senator Shelby. "We have a responsibility to ensure that our first responders have the most up-to-date equipment available. It is critical that our nation follow through on its commitment to ensure the safety of our first responders."
These funds have been awarded by the Department of Homeland Security's Office for Domestic Preparedness, as a part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. This program will distribute $750 million in direct federal assistance to firefighters nationwide this year.
