Quitman defeats Newton

NEWTON The Quitman Panthers were clicking on all cylinders on Friday night and the Newton Tigers were right in their path. The Panthers used three early scoring runs in the first two quarters to take an 86-51 win over the Tigers and spoil senior night for Newton.
Quitman jumped out to a very fast 12-4 lead with 2:42 left in the first quarter behind Prince Trotter and Xavier Arrington. Trotter scored six points in the early run for the Panthers and more great offense would follow for Quitman.
Quitman led 21-9 at the end of the first quarter and the second quarter decided the overall outcome for the rest of the evening.
The Panthers scored 12 consecutive points off of six Newton turnovers to take a 33-9 lead. The Panthers used much of its bench for the rest of the second quarter to take a 46-24 lead into the dressing room.
Quitman dominated the third quarter by going on a very impressive 24-4 run and taking a 75-32 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Newton couldn't close the large gap and the Panthers rolled to the non-divisional win over the Tigers.
Trotter led Quitman with 14 points, while Brett Jones and Arrington both added 10 points apiece in the win. Brandon Shelton led Newton with nine points and Darron Thames added six points in the loss.
Quitman (19-11) returns to action at home in the Division 5-4A tournament and Newton (15-15) will travel to Philadelphia for the Division 5-2A tournament

Newton was able to avoid the home sweep to Quitman by taking the 14-point win over the Lady Panthers. The Lady Tigers held a 23-13 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the second quarter saw Newton go on a 11-2 run and take a 34-21 lead at the end of the first half of action.
Newton ran away with the game in the third quarter by outscoring Quitman 12-4 to open the quarter and the Lady Panthers couldn't overcome the large deficit and dropped the road loss.
Jessica Anderson and Rosalind Jones each led Newton with 19 point in the senior night win. Chotsani Henderson also chipped in with 12 points. Kemonica McGee led Quitman with a game-high 24 points and MaShana Bonner added 11 points.
