MPSA state tourney tips off today

It's already time for the North/South State basketball tournaments in the Mississippi Private School Association.
Winston Academy in Louisville will be hosting the Academy Class A Central State Tournament which begins today.
In today's action, the Academy 3-A champion Lady Rebels of Heidelberg Academy, 20-6, take on CM&I at 4 p.m. At 5:30 p.m., the Heidelberg Academy Rebels, 20-7, face Prentiss Christian School, 14-16.
The other girls' contest has Academy 4-A champion Prentiss Christian, 29-7, taking on Winston Academy, 15-12, at 7 p.m. The late boys' contest has Academy 4-A champion CM&I, 22-5, taking on Newton County Academy, 6-22, at 8:30 p.m.
In Wednesday's games, Wayne Academy's 11-15 Lady Jaguars take on Rebul Academy at 4 p.m. At 5:30 p.m., the 16-11 Wayne Academy boys face the Flames of University Christian School, 24-8.
In other girls' action, Kemper Academy, 20-8, faces Covenant Christian at 7 p.m. The 8:30 p.m. boy's game has Academy 3-A champion Winston, 26-4, hosting Tri-County Academy.
After taking Thursday off, the girls' semifinals are slated for Friday afternoon with the boys' semifinals on tap for Friday night.
Girls' consolation and championship games will be played Saturday afternoon with the boys' games set for Saturday night.
The top four boys and girls teams will advance to the Class A State Tournament next week at University Christian.
The Academy AAA South State Tournament gets under way today at Hillcrest Christian School in Jackson. In today's only action, the 15-9 Lady Pioneers of Parklane Academy play Hillcrest Christian at 5:30 p.m. with the 12-8 Hillcrest boys taking on Parklane at 7 p.m.
Both Lamar School teams will see action Wednesday in rematches of games played last Friday at Baker, La. The 12-17 Lady Raiders take on Central Private, 27-6, at 4 p.m. with the 16-10 Raiders taking on Central Private's 24-5 Rebels at 5:30 p.m.
In last Friday's games, the Central Private girls beat Lamar 54-30, while the Raiders fell 77-75 in double overtime.
Wednesday's other games have the 27-9 Lady Colonels of Copiah Academy playing Adams County Christian School at 7 p.m. and the Adams boys taking on Copiah at 8:30 p.m.
Semifinals are set for Friday and championship and consolation games are slated for Saturday. The top four teams will advance to next week's Class AAA State Tournament at Jackson Prep.
Leake Academy's teams will be playing in the Class AA North State Tournament at Heritage Academy in Columbus after both won Academy 2-AA championships last week at Heritage. The Leake boys beat Manchester Academy 67-61 in the championship, while the Rebelettes took their title with a 76-42 blowout of Manchester.
Leake's 31-1 Rebelettes take on Marshall Academy at 7 p.m. on Wednesday with the 26-4 Rebels facing Bayou Academy at 8:30 p.m.
Other games Wednesday have the Oak Hill Academy girls taking on North Delta School at 4 p.m. and the Benton Academy boys playing Marshall at 8:30 p.m.
Play begins today with the 26-11 Benton Lady Raiders playing West Memphis Christian School at 4 p.m. and the West Memphis boys taking on Manchester at 5:30 p.m.
At 7 p.m., the Marvell (Ark.) girls tangle with Manchester's Lady Mavericks. At 8:30 p.m., the Marvell boys play Heritage, 17-7.
The top four teams will advance to the Class AA State Tournament next week at Canton Academy.
