Halftime show a disgrace
To the editor:
The Super Bowl halftime show was a disgrace to all Americans. The crude display by Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake was a setback for the Super Bowl, but a larger display of disrespect was Kid Rock's wearing of an American flag with a slit in it for a shirt. The Super Bowl Committee and MTV should not allow such disrespect to the United States and its flag.
What a way to lose fans.

Dreaming of a new life
To the editor:
It is hard to see your dream come true, especially since I'm from the small town of Meridian. My dream is to become a professional actor. I look up to people like Morgan Freeman and Denzel Washington, and I say to myself that's what I wanna do. I did a play for my church once about five or six years ago that was televised, and I fell in love with the art of acting. I tell myself if Sela Ward can do it and get out of Meridian, then I can, too.
I told my father of my dream when I was younger but he and my aunt talked down on it, and they talked me into the joining the Army, which I can say I enjoyed the time I spent in Hawaii. But when you have a dream you can't let go of it.
While serving my time in Hawaii, they were filming the movie, "Tears of the Sun," and were in desperate need of extras. So, some friends and I signed up and I had the vision again. If there is anything you can do to help, I will be forever grateful. Thank you.

Murderers among us
To the editor:
On Dec. 21, 2003, Sandy Gardner of Collinsville wrote an article on laws, judges and domestic violence. I would like to say that I agree with her article 100 percent.
I was living in one of the complexes here in Meridian when a 26-year-old man was murdered. For a whole two weeks, no one knew anything and after two weeks no one was arrested for this crime and after three years, no one is yet to pay for this crime. Why not?
On Oct. 5, 2003, Robin Morgan was murdered in cold blood. Guess what? The man who did the crime is still walking the streets getting drunk. He said he killed him. Where is "justice" in this place?
About 15 years ago, Paul Harvey said on one of his commentaries that if you want to get by with murder go to Meridian.
Guess what, he was right because where is there any justice in Meridian when we have murderers walking among us.
Will it be your child next?

Michigan students seek Meridian connection
To the editor:
Hello, my name is Stephanie Gassman and I am 13 years old. I am in eighth grade and, of course, hate homework. What I do like to do is play baseball, read and watch movies. I also like to listen to any kind of music but I like country the most.
With my free time I like to shop and to play with my dog. Sometimes I will play video games with my little brother, except when he is being a brat. I like to clean most of the time at my house but I need lots of sleep to do that. If I get good grades I might be able to become a model this summer at Barbizon.
At my school I get a lot of homework but I don't mind it too much because it's kind of easy. We also have too many stupid rules and I hate that. Besides that I have a really fun school. We have awesome field trips and sometimes we play games in class. I get to see my friends a lot, too. I hate the elementary because they're so mean to my little brother that it's not funny at all and they say he's stupid but he's not.
The specific reason why I am writing to you is because I want my letter to go in your newspaper. My teacher believes that this will be a great opportunity to learn more about our country. We were learning how to write letters in class and she thought this would be a great learning experience. So my whole class is writing to different states. I would love if people would send me a postcard or letter or anything they would like to.
Please place my letter in your paper and thank you in advance. I really hope I get a response from your readers so I can share with my class. Have a great winter.

Hello, my name is Sonja Jurecic. I have brown hair, brown eyes and love to hang out with friends and play sports. I love shopping, shoes, clothes, family and friends and like to have fun. I don't like doing chores and homework.
I live with my parents and have a brother who is in college right now. I am an eighth grader at Orchard View Middle School. We have about 750 students in our school. We have a good football record in the past year. I live right off Lake Michigan in a town called Muskegon.
The main reason I am writing this letter is to ask your to put this letter in the local newspaper. We are practicing writing in our language arts class (Mrs. Dirkse) and she thinks we should explore and learn more about the schools around our states. I hope your loving citizens in your town will please reply. Everybody in our class has different states and is trying to get people in their states to write back.
Thank you for reading this and if you put this in your newspaper I would really appreciate it. I really hope I can see what your town is all about. Thank you again.
