A huge first-half run by Northeast Lauderdale put the Trojans up by double figures for the rest of the game in a 65-48 win over West Jones.
Alex Ford led Northeast Lauderdale with a game-high 16 points. Maurice Langston scored 15 points for the Trojans, and Ramero Osby had 13 points.
The Mustangs built a quick six-point lead in the first quarter, but that was when West Jones' luck ran out. Trailing 13-7, the Trojans reeled off a 20-2 run, hitting the Mustangs with a barrage of long-range jumpers and short layups.
West Jones trailed 31-15 midway through the second quarter until a layup at the 4:28 mark ended Northeast Lauderdale's streak of 11 straight points to begin the period.
The Trojans led 38-22 at halftime.
Lightsey said his team's early defensive adjustments forced the Mustangs out of their rhythm.
Northeast Lauderdale never let up on West Jones. The Trojans went up 48-31 with two minutes remaining in the third quarter after Ford threw down a two-handed dunk.
Osby gave Northeast Lauderdale its first 20-point lead late in the fourth quarter with a tip-in underneath, then helped briefly preserve the lead with a blocked shot on the Mustangs' next possession.
Ira Lee Keys scored 13 points to lead West Jones, and James Bender added 10 points.
