Cousins charged in robbery of elderly woman

Two suspects, identified as cousins by the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department, were charged Wednesday with the robbery of an elderly woman at her home.
Marco Dixon, 20, of 141 Timothy Road, Cuba, Ala., and Brandon L. Dixon, 20, of 1412 Ridge Road, Meridian, were arrested Tuesday afternoon the same day the victim was robbed at her home on Highway 496.
Maj. Ward Calhoun of the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department said the woman called 911 Tuesday about 11:30 a.m. Based in part on her description of the car the men left in, Calhoun said, deputies found the suspects at Bonita Lakes Mall.
Calhoun said the woman was not injured and the suspects were not armed. He said two men were outside the victim's house when she came home from shopping. They asked if they could use her telephone. She told them she would let them use the phone when she got her groceries in the house, but they took her purse while she was unlocking the door.
Calhoun said the number of robberies increases during the holiday season.
Both suspects were being held at the Lauderdale County jail today on $15,000 bond.
