    Obituaries for Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003

    Retired
    Services for Madie Merle Hudson will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church in Collinsville with the Rev. James Williams officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Barham Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
    Mrs. Hudson, 86, of Meridian, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at King's Daughters and Sons Rest Home. She was a retired Sears sales person and a member of Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church in Collinsville. She always loved tending her yard and will be remembered as a very loving aunt.
    Survivors include her brothers, Arnold Hodgins and his wife, Juanice, of Meridian, George Hodgins and his wife, Dean, of Collinsville; and several nieces, nephews, seven great-nieces and great-nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Addison Hudson; her parents, Ruben and Caroline Hodgins; sisters, Mayola Vaughn and Irene Hodges.
    Memorials may be made to the cemetery fund of Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church.
    Visitation will be Thursday 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.
    Lauderdale County employee
    Services for Michael George Woodall will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at James F. Webb Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joey Everett officiating. Burial will be in Frazier Grove Church of God Cemetery.
    Mr. Woodall, 49, of Meehan, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at Rush Foundation Hospital. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Vietnam. He loved camping, fishing and motorcycle riding. He was an employee of Lauderdale County for more than 14 years. He will be remembered as a good friend to all.
    Survivors include his wife, Frankie I. Woodall of Meehan; father, Thomas Woodall Sr. of Meridian; his mother, Jackie Pace of Collinsville; his step-mother, Doris Woodall of Meridian; brothers, Thomas Woodall Jr. and Joseph Woodall Sr., both of Collinsville; sisters, Loraine Matlock of Meridian, Mae Beth Buckalew of Chunky and Cathy Caldwell of Bailey; step-children, Telethia McAllister of Philadelphia, Phillip LaBlanc of Meridian, Frances Hurt and Sam Hurt, both of Meehan; grandchildren, Alisha McAllister, Jennifer McAllister and Joshua Irby; his mother-in-law, Frances I. Mabry; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
    Pallbearers will be Larry Giles, Wayne Robinson, Josh Woodall, Travis Woodall, Joey Woodall, Phillip LaBlanc and Louis Mabry Jr.
    Visitation will be today from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

    Services for Ernestine Rawson Dearman Simmons will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Barham Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Dr. Wayne Riley and Danny Chisolm officiating. Burial will be in Long Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
    Mrs. Simmons, 81, of Meridian, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, in her home. She was a member of Central Baptist Church for many years and the retired owner and operator of Ernestine's Beauty Shop.
    Survivors include her sons, Larry Dearman and his wife, Gale, and Rickey Dearman and his wife, Jeannie, all of Meridian, Danny Ray Dearman of Plano, Texas, and Ernie Dearman and his wife, Sandy, of Tupelo; seven grandchildren, Sherry Roberson and Angela Dearman of Meridian, Jimmy Dearman and Cindy Denham of Texas, Derek Dearman of Birmingham, Ala., Jessica Dearman and Tyler Dearman of Tupelo; and three great-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her husbands, Leo Dearman and Roy Simmons; and a daughter, Sherry Dearman.
    Visitation will be today from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

    NEWTON Services for Mary Julia Davis will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at James F. Webb Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mark McDonald officiating. Burial will be in Newton County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
    Mrs. Davis, 78, of Newton, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, in her home. She was a retired office manager for Newton Company after more than 38 years and a member of Antioch Christian Church.
    Survivors include her sons, Wayne Davis and his wife, Joni, of Laurel, Glenn Davis and his wife, Wyonna, of Alvin, Texas, and Kerry Davis of Batesville; a sister, Edna Earl Swartz of Birmingham, Ala.; grandsons, Matthew Davis of Livingston, Tenn., Jonathan Davis of Laurel, Brad Davis and Christopher Davis, both of Alvin, Texas, and Samuel Davis of Batesville.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Ivor Davis; and her parents, Earl Francis and Analda Green McMahon.
    Pallbearers will be Matthew Davis, Jonathan Davis, Brad Davis, Christopher Davis, Mike Alexander and Johnny McCormick.
    Visitation will be in today from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

    Services for Robert G. "Bobby" Soul will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at James F. Webb Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Danny Chisolm officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
    Mr. Soul, 88, of Meridian, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at Rush Foundation Hospital. He served in North Africa and the China-Burma theaters as a transport pilot in World War II.
    He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was a former member of the Civil Air Patrol and the Gulfport Kiwanis. He attended Central Baptist Church in Meridian.
    Mr. Soul was a long time resident of Gulfport where he owned and operated Bob Soul Flying Service at Gulfport field. In later years, he also worked as a realtor, boat broker and a shrimper. He loved flying and the water.
    Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Loletia Cooper Soul of Meridian; a daughter, Loletia Henson of Marianna, Fla.; a son, Bob Soul and his wife, Helen, of Meridian; a sister-in-law, Eileen Soul of Meridian; a brother-in-law, James H. Keeton of Magnolia Springs, Ala.; grandchildren, Tricia Soul Morris of Collinsville, Nichole Soul Nix of Memphis, Tenn., Toni McAdory of Vicksburg, Anita Shoemaker of Decatur, Connie Henson of Waterford, Mich., John Henson of Atlanta and Chelsea Walker of Marianna; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, George W. Soul and Constance Bridget Gara Soul; a brother, Hal Soul; his sister, Edna Soul Keeton; and a daughter, Jessica Soul Harney.
    Memorials may be made to the Mississippi Industrial Heritage Museum/Soul Live Steam Museum, P.O. Box 5031, Meridian, MS 39302.
    Pallbearers will be Kevin McAdory, Andy Nix, Jimmy Shoemaker, Bruce Gibson, Gary Golden, Lee Espey, Casey Shoemaker and Matthew Morris.
    Visitation will be today from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
    Arrangements were incomplete at Stephens Funeral Home for Joyce Mae Smith, 72, of Meridian, who died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at Rush Foundation Hospital.
    Arrangements were incomplete at Milling Funeral Home of Union for Estelle Belk Nordan, 86, of Union, who died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, in Union
    Arrangements were incomplete at Berry and Gardner Funeral Home for Mary Velma Jordan, 86, of Meridian, who died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at Rush Foundation Hospital.
    Arrangements were incomplete at Barham Funeral Home for Ruby A. Scarbrough, 71, of Pensacola, Fla., who died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at Hospice of the Emerald Coast.
