MCC takes three on court

The Meridian Community College Eagles won three matches over the weekend, while the Lady Eagles tumbled to Itawamba in their only match.
The Eagles blanked Pearl River 9-0 on Friday, before taking a 9-0 win over Northeast Mississippi Community College on Saturday morning and a 5-4 win over Itawamba Community College in the afternoon.
The women dropped a 6-3 decision to ICC.
The Eagles did not lose a set in their wins over Pearl River and Northeast.
In No. 1 singles against PRCC, Will Wiggins beat Ken Miller, 6-2, 6-3, while Matt McElhaney downed Matthew Hughes, 6-3, 7-5 in No. 2 singles and bobby Barton beat Jonathan Barlow 6-1, 6-0 in No. 3 singles. Other singles matches saw Brad Dearman beat Patrick Cannon, 6-0, 6-4, Kevin McDonald down Joel Hebert 6-2, 6-0 and Dustin Davidson top Josh Eaton, 6-1, 6-1.
Doubles action saw Wiggins and McElhaney beat Barlow and Cannon 8-2, Barton and Dearman down Miller and Hughes 8-1 and McDonald and Davidson topped Hebert and Eaton 8-2.
Wiggins had a little tougher battle in his match against Northeast, downing Andrew Clements 6-4, 6-4.
In the other singles matches against Northeast McElhaney beat Edgar Gonzalez 6-3, 6-0, Barton beat Brett Whaley, 6-0, 6-1, Dearman ripped Russ Johnson 6-0, 6-0, McDonald downed Caleb Jones, 6-0, 6-1 and Davidson topped Blake Jones 6-1, 6-1.
Doubles action saw Wiggins and McElhaney win a tough battle with Clements and Gonzales 8-6, while Barton and Dearman topped Whaley and Johnson 8-2 and McDonald and Davidson rolled past Jones and Jones 8-0.
The Eagles lost the top two singles matches and top two doubles matches, but the rest of the squad rallied to give MCC the 5-4 win.
Itawamba's Daniel Bustamante downed Wiggins 6-3, 7-5 in No. 1 singles, while Jorge Zabrodiec beat McElhaney 6-3, 6-0 in No. 2 singles.
The ICC team of Bustamante and Zabrodiec beat Wiggins and McElhaney 8-3 in No. 1 doubles, while Itawamba's Ron Winter and Gary Lauderdale beat Barton and Dearman 9-7 in doubles action.
The No. 3 MCC doubles team of McDonald and Davidson beat Greg Simons and Matt Robinson 8-3 to clinch the win.
MCC got singles wins from Barton over Winter, 7-6, 4-6, 9-7, Dearman over Robinson 7-5, 7-5, McDonald over Simmons 6-1, 6-2, and Davidson over Lauderdale 6-0, 6-0.
In women's action over ICC, MCC won the top two singles matches and No. 1 doubles matches.
Charlotte Heidelberg of Meridian beat Brittany Scott 6-3, 1-6, 10-8, in No. 1 singles, while Megan Chivas beat Kaitlin McClarty 6-1, 6-1 in No. 2 singles and Heidelberg and Chivas teamed up to beat Scott and McClarty in No. 1 doubles.
Itawamba won the other four singles matches. Cecil Crane beat Casie Joyner 6-4, 6-2, Nikki Crane beat Anna Bailey, 6-2, 6-1, Marlena White outdueled Jill Hathorn, 6-3, 2-6, 12-10, and Kristen Cother beat Amanda Carden.
ICC won the No. 2 doubles match as Crane and White beat Bailey and Hathorn 8-2 and Crane and Cother downed Joyner and Carden 8-2.
