Leagues hit third round action

With the holidays behind us, it is time to look forward to the second half of the bowling season. All leagues have now completed 2nd round action and roll-off spots have been captured by the round winners in each league. Now it's time to roll up your shirt sleeves and get to work in the 3rd and 4th rounds.
In addition to league action, tournament competition begins to heat up as well. Last week we detailed the tournaments that Meridian will be hosting over the coming months. In addition to those, several other tournaments will capture our attention over the coming weeks. Already underway are the Capital City Classic doubles tournament at Cotton Bowl Lanes in Jackson and the Red Carpet Lanes 1st Annual Doubles Tournament in Vicksburg. The Capital City Classic began January 5th and runs each weekend through February 10. A First Place finish will net the winner $8000. Meanwhile, in Vicksburg, bowlers will be aiming for a $5000 winner's purse each weekend this month. The entry fee in both events is $60 per team.
Beginning February 9th Spanish Trail Lanes in Gautier will be hosting the 7th Annual Double Diamond Invitational Tournament. This tournament will run 15 weekends and will feature Teams, Double, Singles and All-Events. Last years prize fund totaled over $82,000 and Tournament Manager Chuck Holbert expects this years tournament to surpass that amount this year. Entry forms for all these tournaments are available at Dixie Bowl. Be sure to check the fliers for entry closing dates and rules for each tournament.
Don't forget to begin getting your teams together for the mens and ladies City Tournaments to be held at Dixie Bowl in February. Entry forms are already available for the ladies. Mens entry forms should be posted soon.
Note to readers: The scores posted for The Queen City league, Dixie Belles league and Ball &Chain league are the results of the final week prior to the holiday break. Wednesday Night Mixed results are the first to be posted from the current session.
