Defending champ Posey, locals tee-off at state am
Qualifying began Monday in Hattiesburg for the 68th Mississippi Women's Golf Association State Amateur.
Among the local entrants, Meridian's Lou Hart, a nine-time champion of the event, fired an even-round 72 to make the field, while defending champion Pam Posey got a round in, although she didn't have to qualify.
Posey was paired for today's opening round match-play format with fellow Meridian competitor Jean Murphy.
Dale Bounds, also of Meridian, will be in the championship flight today against Sheila Haynes. The Canton native bested Monday's qualifying field with a 1-under-par 71 on the Canebrake course.
