Lamar tennis team downs Manchester Academy

The Lamar School tennis team ventured to the Ridgeland Tennis Center in Jackson Tuesday, where the Raiders and Lady Raiders teamed for a 7-2 win over district rival Manchester Academy.
Lamar returns to action Thursday in another district match at home against Copiah Academy. The 3:30 p.m., match is set for two different locations:
The Raiders will play at Northwood Country Club, as well as at the Northeast Park Tennis Complex.

In girls' No. 1 singles, Sara Michelle Nicholson of Lamar defeated Manchester's Jenny Collier 6-1, 6-1;
In girls' No. 2 singles, Rachel Parker of Manchester edged Lamar's Kate Archer 6-3, 6-7, 7-6;
In girls' No. 1 doubles, Lamar's Jennifer Russell and Carrie McConnell beat Manchester's Leah Pace and Jariel Hairston 6-4, 1-6, 6-3;
In girls' No. 2 doubles, Lamar's Molly Rutherford and Anne Claire Marascalco defeated Maris Simmons and Morgan McCleon of Manchester 6-2, 6-0;
In mixed doubles, Danny Russell and Kristina Makey of Lamar whipped Manchester's Payton Hines and Elyse Jordan 6-1, 6-0;
In boys' No. 1 singles, Frank Marascalco of Lamar got past Manchester's Will Jones 6-3, 3-6, 6-0;
In boys' No. 2 singles, John Crysler of Manchester defeated Jimmy Epps of Lamar 3-6, 7-5, 6-3;
In boys' No. 1 doubles, Stanton Lauderdale and Lane Rush of Lamar beat John Simmons and Blaine Newcombe of Manchester 6-3, 6-4; and
In boys' No. 2 doubles, Lamar's Pat Phillippi and J. Grantham blanked Manchester's Jack Phillips and Thomas Hines 6-0, 6-0.
