Jeremy Brown hit a two-run homer and Beau Hearod hit another two-run homer in a five-run sixth inning to lead Alabama to an 8-1 win over Mississippi State on Friday night.
Alabama (28-22, 11-14 Southeastern Conference) got a solid pitching performance from Lance Cormier, who retired 13 of the first 14 batters he faced. Cormier (8-5) pitched a complete game, allowing just the one run on six hits.
Aaron Clark hit his conference-leading 19th homer in the sixth inning. That proved to be too much for Mississippi State (28-19, 14-11).
Bulldogs' starter Paul Maholm (5-4) was taken out of the game in the sixth.
Steve Gendron hit a single and scored Mississippi State's lone run on a single by Matthew Maniscalco in the fifth inning.
The Crimson Tide jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. Brown opened the scoring with an RBI single in the first inning. He was 2-for-3 and drove in three runs in the game, including two on his 10th homer of the season.
Maholm allowed seven runs, six earned, on seven hits to take the loss.
Cincinnati 7, Southern Miss. 5: Ryan Minges hit his 10th homer of the year and Kevin Youkilis had a triple in a four-run fourth inning to help Cincinnati beat Southern Mississippi 7-5 Friday night.
Matt Singer extended his hitting streak to 16 games with two hits for Cincinnati (31-18, 13-9 Conference USA). The Bearcats trailed 4-3 after the top of the fourth inning.
Southern Miss (21-29, 9-15) scored two runs in the third inning and two in the fourth to take the lead. Jeff Cook had four hits and drove in one run for the Golden Eagles.
In the bottom of the fourth, Minges hit the homer to make it 4-4 and Youkillis tripled to put the Bearcats ahead 5-4. Cincinnati scored two more runs to make it 7-4 and put the game away.
Clint Stoy was 2-for-2 with a homer for Southern Miss.
B.J. Borsa (5-5) allowed five runs on nine hits in six innings to earn the win. Curtus Moak picked up his fifth save.
Shea Douglas (4-5) gave up seven runs on nine hits in 71/3 innings to take the loss.
Tennessee 5, Mississippi 4: Stevie Daniel hit a two-run single in the ninth to lift Tennessee to a 5-4 victory over Mississippi on Friday night.
Tennessee (36-14, 14-11 Southeastern Conference) trailed 4-3 when Brandon Hopkins hit a single to center. Chris Burke then walked, and Daniel drove the players home with his third hit of the night.
Will Curtiss (5-1) pitched the final two innings for the win. Glen Morris (0-1) suffered the loss.
Mississippi (35-15-1, 16-9 SEC) opened scoring in the first with RBI singles by Burney Hutchinson and Carl Lafferty. Josh Christian made it 3-0 with a single in the third.
Tennessee rallied in the bottom of the inning, when Burke scored on a single by Daniel. Daniel then scored on a double by Jeff Christensen.
The teams traded hits in the fifth. Christian drove home his second run of the game, while Burke scored on Christensen's sacrifice fly to make it 4-3.
